What are chats?

  • Updated

In addition to conversations within course content, course members can start group or one-on-one chats to have discussions that are not connected to a piece of content.

Group chats

Group chats can be either open (accessible to all students in the course) or private (restricted to select students). Examples of open chats include:

  • Discussions about assignments and class projects
  • Papers, non-Perusall assignments
  • General topics

Private chats are ideal for collaboration and are not counted towards a student score. Instructors can create open group chats, while both instructors and students have the ability to create private group chats.

One-on-one chats

One-on-one chats are direct conversations between two course members, whether instructors or students. They can be initiated through the left course navigation sidebar by clicking the + button under the One-on-one heading and selecting the desired participant. Alternatively, private chats can be started within a document by clicking the avatar of another group member currently viewing the course content.
