What is a book or journal club? For students

  • Updated

With a quick setup, you can create a Perusall Book Club or Journal Club by selecting books from the catalog or uploading articles and other materials to discuss with peers. These clubs focus on collaboration, with no grading involved.

Invite Peers

If you are looking to use a club to collaborate with peers, navigate to Settings > Access. There are multiple ways to provide access:

  • Members are users who can enroll in your club and participate in content. To invite members, provide the Member enrollment code, Member enrollment URL, or Invite by email.

Users who are invited by the enrollment code will login to their Perusall account and click Enter enrollment code. If a user receives the enrollment url, they will click the link and be taken directly into the club. (If they do not have an account with Perusall, they will be prompted to create one.)

  • Organizers are users can participate in content and also receive full access to the club,  including all member data.

To invite a user as a Organizer, you will enter their email and click Send invitations. If you want to share your club with another peer, the Copy Code is provided at the bottom of this page.

Uploading materials and managing content

The Library tab of the club is where all the materials will be stored.

Alongside books from our catalog (view the titles currently available),  you can also upload your own materials, as long as you own the rights to the documents you upload or you have permission to share them. You can upload files in any of the following formats:

  • PDF
  • EPUB
  • Microsoft Word
  • Text files
  • Videos
  • Podcasts
  • Web pages
  • External site links

If you are using a lot of materials, you have the option to add folders to the library. (See here for more information).
